Pairs, 8th August 2012

Yesterday we visited Paris, it took about an hour and it was a fraction of the cost, compared to traveling from Metz. We started near the Eiffel Tower and walked to Invalids, Concord and Tuileries. After we were too tired to do anything so we came home. It was nice not to rush and take our time in the different places.
Funny ones at the tour.
This was a really nice picture, they aren't killing each other.
Little park for lunch at Invalids.
Invalids.
Details of the end of the cannons.
Someone loves this bridge, as it is called the "Alexandre III bridge". We told him it was "his" bridge on a trip to Paris three years ago, and he hadn't forgotten. So we had to visit it.
Love the details of the lamps.
Busy Concord.

Crete Phaistos

Phaistos is another Minoan Palace, found on the south of Crete. It was a super hot day and I got sun stroke here... (I was silly and had no hat- I bought one the next day) They didn't find too many objects here during the digs. The most famous was the double sided disc, pictured above. The site had lots of rooms and large storage pots.
Someone was captivated, as Hubby had told him the story about the Minotaur and so he was very excited to go in the ruins here and at Knossos. He wanted to search for the Minotaur.
The had rooms and rooms of storage pots.
The queen's rooms.
A another funny statue.
MMM this one looks familiar too!
The surrounding landscape was beautiful.
Two funny sculptures.

Crete, Rethymno Archaeological Museum

Up on a hill, there was this museum. The people working there really needed to retire or move on. They were kind of upset that they had to watch us...I guess we stopped them from their morning tea. But the collection was so good. We were all glad to see all of the Minoan and Roman objects. The little one was better this time and didn't climb in anything.
Very serious...
Bull headed... sometimes.
Sitting still, not running or screaming.... mmm better museum trained that day.
This was  funny sculpture, I think it was called "French man with shopping bag"
Someone wanted to be like me, an artist and draw some of the objects. I'll scan our drawings and put them on the blog later.
Love flower cow!
We had a great visit, but like most museums here, there were no good postcards or books. And some exhibits were not allowed to be photographed. The museums really need to get with it!
