Crete, Rethymno

On our stay we visited Rethmno over six times. It was our closest city, being 11km away from the villa. It was always over 36°c, and on the first time it took a long time to find parking and the road are always challenging in Crete. An obstacle course with, cars, motorbikes (who never wear helmets, sometimes with two or more on them), pedestrians, buses, taxis etc. If you can survive the driving in Greece or in Paris, you can drive anywhere in Europe.
This is part of the old town. The town has a rich history with the Minoans, Romans, Venetians and Turks. Each time we visited the town, we got to like it more and more and find more treasures.
We found lots of old doors.
After a drive in a crazy place and 36°c Hubby deserved a beer.
Loving the shade.
A little one, makes a lot of spills at the moment, and then he takes off his clothes. Lucky they were dry in 5 minutes in the hot sun.
Old Mosque.
Waterside.
It has a large port.
Part of the beach.
We found a playground, (old style)... in the park in the centre. The kids loved it.
The pirate ship arriving.
I almost always, get the first sip of beer.
Waiting for the chips to come.
Some living sculptures in the square behind the old mosque, with some graffiti (it's everywhere, and not the beautiful kind- like in Barcelona).
Old mosque, from the city square. At night it's sometimes cooler and a great meeting place.
Old door.
Town Hall.
Venetian Fort, each time we wanted to visit is was too hot, so we never got to see inside.

Crete, Iraklio

Just around the corner from the Archaeological museum, there was this modern building built over a site.
This city is the captial, but for us it lacked something. There was some nice architectural buildings, but the rest was ordinary and covered in graffiti. There were dodgy people about and the city hadn't capitalized on the location of the port. I tried to take photos of the nicer things.
Advert for lunch.
The Venetian Fortress.
Kids wanted to go swimming in the water.
