National Gallery of Australia, 11th of August...

I hadn't been to the National Gallery of Australia since 2003, so it was great catching up...

There is a fabulous exhibition, not to miss, the "National Indigenous Art Triennial".

There is a great kid friendly interactive section.

We then went outside to the sculpture garden, for an after school snack. I caught up with some familiar european friends...

Canberra has so much public sculpture, it's almost on every corner...but here, it's easy to spot.

Boys had a great time, spotting sculptures,  running and rolling down the grass hills, but we found out, you can't take sticks into the gallery.

National Portrait Gallery, 8th of August...

I quickly popped into the National Portrait Gallery for an hour, thinking I could just zoom past the portraits... but I was really interested in reading about all of the characters and to brush up on my Australian history...and so I'll have to go back for a long visit.
The building is modern and sleek...
James Angus "Geo Face Distributor".

Howard Arkley, "Nick Cave".

Evert Ploeg "Derek Denton"

It was good to revisit some Australian friends...Grace Cossington-Smith's, "Self Portrait".

 John Brack, "Tam Purves".

Charles Blackman, "Lure of the Sun".

Jenny Sages, "Emily Kame Kngwarreye with Lily".

 Kerrie Lester, "Cathy Freeman".
I was just at the right time for a great sun photo. Click HERE to find out more about the gallery.

6th of August, Commonwealth Park.

Not far from home, is a park with lots of birds. The boys had a great time looking at the wildlife and playing on the cool playground castle.
