31st of July, Museum of Emile Chenon in Chateaumeillant

While excavating for a building project in the mid 50's they found over 600 of these jars- Amphora is the name of the shape and they were used to store wine. They are from Roman times, the jars were from Italy, Greece and Spain. Chateaumeillant was a once a Roman town.
They recently found this and other amazing treasures below (2011), in a well. In this point in history, when the Gauls attacked Roman towns, they burned everything to the ground, so the ememy had no food or resources. A well was a good place to keep these treasures.
